Fostering education, health, and economic development

Corporater is an active partner of Seb’s Projects India (Sebs).

Sebs is a non-profit organization that helps communities in India to come out of social exclusion through education, health and livelihood programs. Since 2008, Sebs has expanded its footprint across the Jawadhi Hills, and among rural communities in Vellore district in India. Sebs gives a voice to those who are discriminated, those whose rights are denied, and those who have no access to Government schemes, and makes their voices heard. Sebs concentrates on providing quality education, healthcare, and livelihood opportunities to the underprivileged who would otherwise continue to be in the peripheries of the social fabric.

Since 2017 Corporater has worked with Sebs on projects including housing repairs, education programs, and improved access to water and sanitation.

Sebs’ Focus Areas

Seb’s Projects India was established with the vision of reaching out to the poorest and most vulnerable lives in India, and lighting them, one at a time. Sebs works diligently to create more equal India, reaching out to the rural poor and marginalised, and striving to provide equal access to education, basic health and livelihoods for all.

Education

Sebs educational initiatives vary from running pre-schools to primary and middle schools. Children from the tribal communicates are provided with easy access to education. The teachers devote their lives by staying in remote locations to make education more than just a dream for children of Jawadhi Hills. Today every child of school-going age in the tribal villages where Sebs has a presence, attends a Sebs School. At present 370 students are in school.

Health

People in Jawadhi Hills live in poor hygienic conditions, have poor nutrition and are prone to various health conditions. Less than 20% of children are fully immunized and 67% were found to be malnourished. Today, the District Health Department has facilitated the immunization programs in all villages which are hamlets of Seb’s Projects. Monthly medical checkups and hospitalization are provided for very sick patients. The pre-school program also runs on a health-based approach.

Child Care Center

The mother and child care program focuses on the holistic development of children which starts even before their birth. In partnership with Integrated Child Development Department, Sebs addresses the health and nutrition of pregnant, lactating mothers and children below the age of four.

Livelihood

In the tribal project areas, land, water, livestock, and forest remain the main sources of livelihood. Most families depend on seasonal agriculture and the forest as sources of income. The deteriorating forest and the implementation of forest protection laws have adversely impacted these activities, decreasing the income for the local communities. Sebs has promoted home-based microenterprises such as poultry-rearing, soap-making, tailoring, and Eco-trails. The Good-bye to Paper project empowers destitute women to earn a living with dignity and self-confidence.
