Every year Corporater grants a Code of Conduct – Social Impact Award to an employee who goes above and beyond to improve the quality of life of others, enable those who can’t help themselves, and unselfishly give their time and intellect to make a social impact. The award comes with a financial grant to be used to further support the employee’s social impact efforts.

The 2019 Corporater Code of Conduct – Social Impact Award was awarded to Denison Ruz on November 30, 2019 for making a valuable difference for cancer patients in Brazil.

Two years ago, after two years of intense treatment, Denilson’s beloved wife, Josie, died of cancer. During these two years Denilson saw a need to help other cancer patients in a special way.

Making a Difference for Cancer Patients

Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world. It has a public health system, however, some of the poorest people struggle to receive proper health care. Over 630.000 people get cancer in Brazil every year, and only 77% of those are treated by the public health system.

Dealing with cancer is beyond imagination for us that are healthy. You loose your hair, your skin dries, your taste goes away, your appetite is lost – in many ways you are “robbed of life – but still living.” In experiencing this situation with his wife and the other patients, Denilson saw a need – and acted on this.

From his own funds, Denilson purchased gifts to help cancer patients feel beautiful. For women and girls he bought lipstick, lotions, and scarves. For men he bought caps. In addition to the gifts, Denilson also showed love and care by doing bi-weekly visits to the hospital – even after his wife passed away.

Denilson is worthy the Corporater Code of Conduct – Social Impact Award for selflessly providing care and emotional support to people fighting cancer, and using his own funds to supply gifts to make them feel beautiful.

Upon receiving the grant awarded through the Corporater Code of Conduct – Social Impact Award, Denilson partnered up with a professional beautician to assemble 50 high quality beauty kits to be gifted to cancer patients at Santa Teresa Hospital in São Paulo, Brazil. The kits were distributed the first week of March, 2020, and several patients also received a professional makeup application. Corporater hopes that these kits will help create some light in the challenging days of these patients.

Corporater would like to thank Denilson for making a valuable difference in the lives of others.
