The Strategic initiative model provides a centralized location for storing all the Strategic initiatives, giving the administrator an overview and making it possible to:
Assign ownership and responsibility
Monitor progress
Add short term and long term plans
Archive plans for future references
The Strategic initiative object is the basis object for the Strategic initiative model.
Because Strategic initiatives can be connected to other systems and/or other systems can be connected to them, they can be used as a project management tool.
By copying a Strategic initiative to the Template model, you can link it to other objects across models, and thus use it across the system.
Strategic initiatives are not organization based objects and therefore do not have any organization context. Functions containing 'this' below a Strategic initiative
will use the organization of the first object in the Affects list of the Strategic initiative.
The Strategic initiative model can be found in the View menu, under the Business Management Platform Model in the Window menu, or in the Toolbar.
The Strategic initiative object is a root object, i.e. it can be added directly in the Strategic initiative panel or to a category. Right click in the Strategic initiative panel and choose Add -> Strategic Initiative. Or choose Add -> Category if you prefer to create a folder for storing your initiatives, then right click it and choose Add -> Strategic initiative. You can also build a hierarchy of initiatives by right clicking a Strategic initiative and choosing Add -> Business object -> Strategic initiative. Double click a Strategic initiative to configure it.
You can add most other object types to a Strategic initiative by right clicking it and choosing the object types from the menu.
Strategic initiatives are displayed in Initiative tables on the web page. A Strategic initiative can be added directly to an Initiative table on the web. See Affects below for more information.
General
Name - the name "Strategic initiative" is generated automatically but may be changed
Description - an optional text describing the object
Responsible - the user or users who are responsible for the Strategic initiative
Affects - the object(s) that are affected by the Strategic initiative. Click the icon on the right, search for the desired object(s), and mark the box beside each of them. You can choose objects in the Business Management Platform structure and the risk structure.
Strategic initiatives are visualized on the web via Initiative tables. You must create an Initiative
table on each object where you want to show initiatives. The object name in the Affects column in an Initiative table works as a link to that object. E.g. if you want to show Strategic initiative 1 on Scorecard
1, you must create an Initiative table on Scorecard 1, and you must add "Scorecard 1" in the Affects field on Strategic initiative 1.
Start date - the date the initiative begins; used when filtering in Initiative tables
End date - the date the initiative ends; used when filtering in Initiative tables
Some properties, such as Start date and End date, are historical properties.
That means they will only be displayed in the period in which they were entered and later periods until new values are entered for Start and End date.
Period type - Period reference, used for time based Status calculations
External URL - enter a URL that will act as a link to an external system, e.g. http://www.somewebsite.com/.
To add a text that is a clickable link it must be entered in the form:
<a href="http://www.somewebsite.com/" target="_blank">some text</a>
where "some text" is what will appear in the Initiative table on the web.
Status & Progress
Status algorithm - the algorithm used to calculate status. If "Weighted status" is selected, the weight factor below will be used. If "Manual status" is selected, users will also be able to set the status color on the web.
Manual progress - the progress of the Initiative in percent, if "Manual progress" is selected in Progress algorithm, can be set here or on the web
Status type - click the icon to the right to choose the status configuration to use. New Status types can also be configured here. See Status types for more information.
Manual status - if you selected "Manual status" in Status algorithm, select the status color to show on the web: "Red", "Yellow", "Green", or "None"; Manual status may also be set on the web
Inherit status - applies only if you select 'Manual status' for Status algorithm.
If no status value exists for the period, Corporater BMP uses the status value for the previous period.
For Corporater BMP to clear the status value for each period so that users can manually register the status for these periods, deselect the option.
Progress algorithm - the algorithm used to calculate progress. If "Weighted progress" is selected, the weight factor below will be used. If "Manual progress" is selected, users can set the progress on the web.
Weight - the weight factor of this object. Indicates the importance an object has in relation to other objects at the same level
