Time span

A time span is a time interval with a custom duration.

You can use it to control the time period in which a scorecard is accessible to users on Web.

You can create multiple time spans and then individually apply them to scorecards in Corporater BMP. As such, the scorecards become accessible to users on Web for different periods of time.

The time span functionality applies at the following levels:

Based on your organizational needs, you can configure the time span functionality at a single or at each level.

Application-level time span

To configure time span across Corporater BMP, you must access the Time spans category in Shared web items

Default time span

The Time spans category includes a standard, initial time span called a default time span.

It contains no specific start or end dates and applies to each scorecard in the application.

Each scorecard is set to be available in the time interval of ten years before the current period and ten years after the current period (i.e., -10y to +10y).

Because the default time span is a standard BMP object, you may not delete it.

Custom time span

In addition to the default time span, you can create custom time spans and assign them to individual scorecards.

Custom time spans follow the same rules and have the same configuration as the default time span.

To create a new, custom time span, right-click the Time spans category, select Add, then Time span.

Double-click the item to configure it.

Open time span vs Global time span

Corporater BMP applies Open time span and Global time span intervals as follows:

1. If you don't set a Global time span and an Open time span interval, Corporater BMP makes each scorecard available on Web to users in the time interval of ten years before the current period and ten years after the current period (i.e., -10y to +10y).

2. If you don't set a Global time span but you do set an Open time span interval, such as from Jan 1st, 2013 to +2Y:

3. If you set a Global time span interval, such as from Jan 1st, 2010 to Dec 31st, 2015, and an Open time span interval, such as from Jan 1st, 2013 to +2Y:

Object-level time span

You can use the object-level time span to override the application-level time span settings for one or more specific scorecards.

As such, you can further restrict their availability on Web to users without extended time span access.

For example, if the Open time span interval is from 2013-05-01 to 2013-08-01 and you set the Time span interval for a scorecard from 2013-06-01 to 2013-07-01, then the scorecard will be accessible on Web to users only from 2013-06-01 to 2013-07-01.

If the Open time span interval includes a scorecard's Time span interval, the scorecard will be accessible on Web to users for the entire duration of the Open time span interval.

For example, if the Open time span interval is from 2013-05-01 to 2013-08-01 and you set the Time span interval for a scorecard from 2013-04-01 to 2013-09-01, the scorecard will be accessible on Web to users from 2013-05-01 to 2013-08-01.

To define the time span for a scorecard, use the dedicated Time span property from Advanced properties.

Click the Time span button () and select an existing or create a new custom time span.

For a scorecard to be accessible on Web to users, it must be accessible for the entire selected Time span period. For example, if you set the Period type for a scorecard to 'M Month' and its Time span interval from April 13 to April 24, and the current period is April, then the scorecard won't be accessible on Web to users. Corporater BMP won't include April as an available month in the period selector.

Time span is different from lifetime (validity period). If a scorecard's lifetime (validity period) is outside its time span interval, the scorecard remains accessible only to users with special access rights, such as users with admin access privileges, users who are members of the Admin access group, and users with extended time span access.

Corporater BMP applies the lifetime (validity period) with priority over time span.

For example, if a scorecard's  lifetime (validity) period is between 2013-06-01 to 2013-07-01 and its time span interval is from 2013-05-01 to 2013-08-01, then the scorecard will be accessible on Web to users only from 2013-06-01 to 2013-07-01.

User-level time span

To configure time span at user-level, you must access the Access Profiles Manager.

Extended time span

Extended time span access is a flag that you can set against user profiles. Corporater BMP uses this flag to determine the rights of the users that are associated with these profiles with respect to time span.

Users without this flag are regular users. As such, Corporater BMP confines them to the specified Open time span interval.

Users without this flag have access for the entire Global time span interval.

By default, administrators don't have the extended time span access flag.
