Node management

Nodes are the "account structure" in the Business Management Platform. They are used to store data. Nodes are the basis for creating functions that return the values that are displayed in the scorecard. The nodes make up a living structure that can be changed as management needs change.

Nodes are not connected to any particular organization, so the entire organization can use the same node structure. Only the values stored in a node are connected to a particular organization.

Data (figures) are the lowest level of management information a business has. Data can be in any numeric format and are inserted into the system via nodes.

The node structure is hierarchic. New nodes can be added anywhere in the structure and new substructures can be constructed. A built-in summing (aggregation) function automatically sums up nodes at one level to the node at the level above.

Deleting nodes requires extra confirmation. Since all data that is connected to a node will be lost if it is deleted, make sure that only the correct node(s) are deleted.

How to create a node

Go to the Node Management view in Configuration Studio by clicking the Node Management icon in the toolbar or choosing Node Management in the View menu.

Then right click in the Node panel and choose Add -> Node. To create a node structure, make sure the correct parent node is marked before right clicking.

Nodes are automatically assigned IDs. The application starts with node ID number 100 and assigns numbers consecutively as nodes are created, but you may change them.

There is no logic built into assignment of node IDs, so it's a good idea to put some thought into how you want to organize the node structure before you start. Create the node structure in a structured way so it is clear and searchable.

To make it easier to recognize node IDs, you may want to replace them with internal codes that are used by your firm. They do not have to be numbers.

Node IDs should not contain special characters such as  )  (  .  *  }  {  +  <  >  [  ]  etc.
