Use Defaults to define objects, properties, and structures that should always be present. When you create new objects in the model they will be based on the Defaults you have defined. E.g. you may want KPIs to always include a Description view and a Status object. Add these two objects to the KPI in Defaults and they will always be included when new KPIs are created. You can also change names and other properties on objects in order to build a set of objects that match your model and terminology.
If Defaults are changed, the changes will not affect existing objects, only new ones that are created subsequently.
Another way you can use Defaults is to create multiple types of an object, e.g. different types of Tasks to be used for different purposes.
When you create new objects, they will have the
page setup that is selected for that object in Defaults. A new
object that isn't in Defaults inherits the page setup from its parent object.
The
Addable items property that is available on
some objects
allows you to localize the objects that may be added to them. The
Add menu will contain only the individual objects or the objects in the object category that you specify, irrespective of the model they belong to.
The
Add menu can include only objects that are categories or child objects to categories. For example, if you add a KPI under a Strategic objective in the
Defaults model,
the KPI will not appear in the
Add menu for that Strategic objective.
Defaults can also be used to preconfigure SQL resources, MDX Resources, JAPI Resources, and URI Resources.
Predefine a SAP resource by adding an MDX resource in the Default model and configuring it as a SAP resource.
Defaults can be found in the View menu, under Structure in the Window menu, and in the Toolbar. The Default panel contains a number of pre-defined objects, but you can make changes to them or create new ones.
The Default panel contains a number of predefined objects, but you may add, delete, or make changes to them The predefined objects are organized in four categories:
Default objects where we can see the objects such as scorecard, perspective, strategic objective, KPI, strategic initiative, risk, etc.

Functions: Actual, Budget, Forecast and Target

To change an existing default object simply double click it and make the desired changes to its properties. See the documentation section describing that object for information on its default properties.
To add new objects that should always be present when a certain Default object is added, right click it and choose Add and the desired object. Then configure it as described in its documentation section.
You can also create new categories for storing objects by right clicking the white area in the
Default panel and choosing
Add ->
Category from the menu. Then you can add new objects to it as described above.
Menus that are generated will respect
Start and
End date of objects in the Default system. Default objects that have
Start or
End date property set only be displayed in menus in the valid date range.
For information on how to make changes to an object's default properties see
Property management
Type Management.
You can define
Access control for objects in Defaults. This is done in the same way as explained in the documentation section
for each object type. Access control defined in Defaults will apply to all objects that are created based on the default object, unless changed on individual objects.
The
Override access profile
property may be set on objects in
Defaults
but it has no effect in the
Defaults
model itself.
