Modeling Studio - The Four Models

Corporater offers a unique business modeling framework for creating business applications. There are four core model blocks that provide the foundation for Corporaters success.

The Business object definition model

Defining business objects consists of assigning properties to the object. Properties can be considered the business metadata of the various elements in the system. Basic properties would be the name of the object, or the description. They can also contain links to other objects, lists of options, dates, statuses, calculations, etc. These properties can also be historical, so that as the values of these properties change over time, they are remembered by the system.

These properties can form the basis for how the object is handled by the business rule engine, such as when or where the object should appear in the system, and what automated events should occur based on the state of the object.


The Business object default model

The default object configuration controls how the object should appear as a page on the system in its default state (when added in the web, or deployed automatically). This page design configuration determines what sub-elements the object should contain. There are more than 300 business objects that are available. At a high level, the page design determines what charts or graphs are used, comment holders, tables, reports, where calculated values appear, etc.

The business object default model is also used to create different objects of the same type, such as projects, portfolios, programs, and initiatives. When these objects are added in the web, users complete a brief web form containing the necessary information (name of the project, description, owner, dates, etc.).


The Business objects template model

The template model offers a central library for configuring and managing reusable objects that are usually linked to the metrics models. These generally include completely configured objects that contain calculations, tables of data, charts, graphs, comments holders, etc. Template objects can be pasted or deployed into the live model (below) with a direct link to template. This means that if a metric is linked out to 1000 dashboards, changing the template metric also changes the metric in the 1000 dashboards.


The Business object live model

The live model contains the objects as they are published in the system. This can include links to objects
maintained in the template model (as above), or objects specifically deployed in the live model. It is also
possible to override linked template objects permanently or temporarily to handle exceptions to the structures in the template model.

In addition, the live model contains life-cycle control over the objects in the system. This enables customers to retain the history of their planning and strategy cycles across several years (or reporting periods) while always showing what is (or was) the live model for the reporting period indicated. An extra level of access control can also be applied to objects in the live model, that overrides the normal matrix-style system level access.

A business management solution requires a high degree of both flexibility and control of its content. In addition to the flexible design approach for configuring content, Corporater supports the following concepts that are critical:

Deployment

Automatically adding, maintaining, and controlling content in the web


Access control

Conditional control of access to objects based on the state and status of various properties (who can access what object, when, and why)


Period navigation

The inherent property and navigation that offers automated visualization and reporting of all objects within a periodic reporting interval (day, week, month, quarter, year, or custom period)


Object navigation

Automatically generated links, relationships, and navigational breadcrumb to allow easy navigation between business objects, as well as a clear understanding of the location of the object being visualized.


Business reporting

In addition to the web visualization of content and data, Corporater provides a pixel-perfect document engine that delivers business reports in MS Office (Word, Power Point, Excel) and PDF formats. Rather than generating screen dumps of web content, the reports can be configured to dynamically and conditionally report on content, based on the status and other business conditions of the content being evaluated. In this way, the full management reporting process can be modeled in Corporater, and information can be reorganized easily to fit the purpose of the report. Like other aspects of the solution, report templates can be easily reused, since the content of the report can be ‘described’ in the report. This removes a one-to-one relationship between the report and the content it relies on.
