Goal and Target Setting
W. Edwards Deming, in his class book “The New Economics” states the following lines, “A goal that lies beyond the means of its accomplishment will lead to discouragement, frustration, demoralization. In other words, there must be a method to achieve an aim.”
How many times have you seen the above scenario take place— a manager who sets an unrealistic goal?
What does this do to the motivation of the team?
How does this affect their performance to achieve other, more reachable goals?
With all the focus on performance, goals, and targets, the key issue of motivation is often easy to overlook. Yet without motivation, little can be accomplished. It is important to capture the hearts and minds of your employees. They will be much more engaged, inspired, and motivated if they are included in the goal and target setting process.
