All data stored in the BMP database is given a time stamp, i.e. a date that determines the period to which the data belongs. The period can vary from daily to yearly. A value stored with the date January 15, 2013 will be shown in the period January if the scorecard is monthly, in Q1 (first Quarter) if the scorecard is quarterly, 2013 if the scorecard is yearly and so on.
Information periods are set per scorecard. They should be set to an interval that is sensible for following up a scorecard - usually monthly.
Status values are added and aggregated upwards from KPI to Strategic objective and further to Perspective and Scorecard. A common reporting frequency per scorecard is therefore necessary, which is the reason for having information periods at the scorecard level.
You can, however, override the frequency for each KPI in a scorecard, but only with a lower frequency, i.e. a quarterly KPI in a monthly scorecard. You can change the frequency in the Period drop-down list.
However, the values in Results will always be connected to KPI frequencies. A quarterly KPI in a monthly scorecard will show the whole quarterly figure in each month on the scorecard. Status gauges and Trend arrows will also reflect this.
